A funding partnership between the National Science Foundation and RIT will establish a laboratory for a new undergraduate program in biochemistry. In addition to $60,000 from NSF, the College of Science received matching funds and additional monies from RIT.
The customized facility is designed to expand the department of chemistry's biochemistry option into a full-fledged bachelor's of science degree. The program, which follows the guidelines of the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, will be offered this fall.
"This program gives students interested in chemistry and biology the flexibility to pursue a wide range of careers in the growing biochemistry fields," says Paul Craig, assistant professor, department of chemistry. "The state-of-the-art laboratory will further prepare students for graduate school or immediate employment upon graduation."
