UC Riverside's Amy Houchens Named Rawlings Women's Basketball Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- UC RIVERSIDE guard Amy Houchens has been named the Rawlings California Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of January 3-9.

Houchens, a 5-8 sophomore from Yucaipa, Calif., directed the Highlanders to a pair of CCAA victories over Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A. last week, extending UCR's league-game winning streak to five. In a 63-54 win over CSUDH, Houchens scored a career-high 32 points (8-20 FG, 10-12 FT) and added a game-high six steals and four assists while committing just two turnovers.

The following night, Houchens delivered a game-high 18 points (6-14 FG), six boards, four steals, three assists and a blocked shot to lead the Highlanders to a 63-50 victory over Cal State L.A. For the week, she averaged 25.0 points, 5.0 steals, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists and played all 80 minutes.
