WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- SONOMA STATE thrower Melissa Costa has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 21-27.

Costa, a senior from Soulsbyville, Calif., won the javelin at a five-way dual meet at Cal State Bakersfield with a throw of 144-9, 30 feet farther than the event runner-up. Costa, a three-time All-American, finished fifth in the hammer throw with an effort of 112-9.

The Athlete of the Week honor is the first of Costa's career.
