    Mid-Con Cross Country Mid-Continent Coference

    Southern Utah favored in both Mid-Con cross country polls

    ELMHURST, ILL. — After winning 14 Mid-Continent Conference cross country championships in the last eight years, it is no surprise that Southern Utah’s men’s and women’s cross country squads are the preseason favorite to take home the 2005 title in a vote of the league’s nine head coaches. The Thunderbird men have won seven Mid-Con crowns in eight years, while the T-Bird women have taken home top honors each of the last seven seasons.

    Morris hired as Western Illinois head cross country coach
     
    MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois University head track and field coach Mike Stevenson has announced the hiring of Matt Morris as the head cross country coach for the 2005 season. Morris will also have responsibility over distance runners as an assistant track and field coach during the 2005-06 indoor and outdoor seasons.

    Cross Country Athletes of the Week 11/22
    Oral Roberts' Faithy Kamangila
    The future of cross country in the Mid-Con seems to be in good shape, as a pair of freshman runners won their second consecutive Player of the Week honors to close out the 2004 season. Oral Robert's Faithy Kamangila and Southern Utah's Jess Baumgartner were the Mid-Con's lone representatives in Monday's NCAA Championships. Both put up impressive times, with Kamangila walking away with All-American accolades.

    TERRE HAUTE, IND. - Oral Roberts’ Faithy Kamangila nearly cracked the Top 10 list of the nation’s best collegiate runners, as the freshman placed 11th in Monday’s NCAA Championships.

    Oral Roberts' Faithy Kamangila
    2004 Mid-Con Cross Country Champions Faithy Kamangila (Oral Roberts) and Jess Baumgartner (Southern Utah) earned Athlete of the Week honors for their performances in last weekend’s NCAA Regionals. Both runners were again the best in the league, as they both qualified to represent the Mid-Con at the NCAA Championships.
