Free Flow of Information Act
An effort to protect reporters from being forced to reveal sources in court.

Restoration of Freedom of Information Act of 2003
An effort to restore the freedoms lost in the USA Patriot act of 2001.

Patriot II of 2002
Legislation that would be a major assault on FOI as well as basic freedoms.

Homeland Security Act of 2002
A disturbing attempt to share information about hazards with the government but not the public. In addition, whistleblowers would be prosecuted.

Agriculture, Conservation, and Rural Enhancement Act of 2002
A section would have hindered editors' efforts to inform the public about two very real dangers which exist in farm conservation subsidy program.

Official Secrets Act of 2001
Legislation that would essentially create an "Official Secrets Act" that would be both unnecessary and a danger to First Amendment freedoms

Chemical Safety Information and Site Security Act of 1999
An effort to hide information about chemicals and other hazardous sites from public view.

Hyde Amendment to H.R. 1501: Restricting Access by Minors to Materials Dealing with Sexuality or Violence (1999)
Amendment that would have severely restricted young adults access to materials ruled to be of a sexual or violent nature- opponents noted that many educational materials would still be covered under this amendment.

An attempt to shield public figures from photographers.

The proposed Uniform Correction or Clarification of Defamation Act (UCCDA) of 1998
Proposed state legislation, backed by ASNE, that would aid newspapers libel cases if they made a good-faith effort to make a correction.
