Mid-Continent Conference
High School Leadership
Team Program
The Program
With the cooperation and assistance of the Tulsa Sports Commission and the Community Betterment division of the Tulsa Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, the objective of this program was to offer the Tulsa-area high schools the opportunity to identify students to represent their respective schools in the Mid-Continent Conference High School Leadership Team Program. In Early November, each school was encouraged to conduct whatever type of nomination/selection process it deemed appropriate, with possible special consideration given to academic achievement, exemplary attendance, interest in athletic administration, etc.
Each candidate selected was asked to write a 500-word essay on the importance of developing leadership qualities and how such qualities will hopefully help them in the future. Their essays can be seen by clicking the essay link under each photo on the right.
In February, each candidate was invited to attend a two-hour leadership workshop at an Oral Roberts University home basketball game, held at the ORU Mabee Center. The candidates attended the workshop prior to the basketball game, were given tickets to the game, and were acknowledged during halftime.
Mid-Continent Conference Basketball Championship Activities
During the Mid-Continent Conference Basketball Championship, the Leadership Team will participate in a number of activities that will expose them to the administrative components of a tournament of this magnitude and allow these students the opportunity to assist conference staff in some of the day-to-day duties of the championship.
The Leadership Team will be assigned various administrative duties at Tournament Headquarters (Tulsa Marriott) Tuesday and Wednesday, March 1st and 2nd. The Leadership Team will be assigned various administrative/support duties during the championship tournament at the UMAC, March 5-8.
