The 2006 Mid-Continent Conference Baseball Media Guide is now available on the conference's official web site (www.mid-con.com). 2006 schedules and rosters and 2005 review information are included for each team, as well as a league-wide review of the 2005 season and a complete conference history.

Oral Roberts favored to win Mid-Con title in preseason baseball poll

ELMHURST, ILL. — After winning the last seven regular-season titles and eight consecutive Mid-Continent Conference Championship crowns, it is no surprise that Oral Roberts is the preseason favorite to take home the 2006 baseball title in a vote of the league’s seven coaches. The Golden Eagles (36 pts., 6 first-place votes) were a unanimous selection after garnering six first-place votes (coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams). Western Illinois (29 pts.) finished second in the preseason voting, followed by Southern Utah (25 pts., 1 first-place vote) and Centenary (20). Rounding out the poll are Oakland (16), Valparaiso (15) and Chicago State (6).

Hyman selected to NCAA Regional Advisory Committee
Western Illinois' Stan Hyman
MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois University head baseball coach Stan Hyman has been selected to serve on the NCAA Division I Baseball Mid-East Regional Advisory Committee. Hyman was chosen to represent the Mid-Continent Conference on the D I committee which has the primary responsibility of the evaluation of baseball programs in consideration of selection for the NCAA Tournament.

Western Illinois baseball recruiting class nationally ranked
Western Illinois' Stan Hyman
MACOMB, Ill. - For the second time in three years, the Western Illinois University baseball recruiting class has been nationally ranked according to the poll conducted by Collegiate Baseball. Head coach Stan Hyman’s 2003 recruiting class also was selected among the best in the country in Division I.

Interim Athletics Director Sudie Davis announced the hiring of Vern Hasty as the Cougars baseball coach.
