Three Mid-Con soccer teams earn NSCAA Team Academic Awards

| Southern Utah's Brian Stock | The Valparaiso men's soccer team and the Southern Utah and Valparaiso women's soccer teams were honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) with Team Academic Awards for the 2005 season. To be eligible for the award, a team must have a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2004-05 academic year.

Valparaiso topped by #5 Notre Dame in first round of NCAA tourney

| Valparaiso's Erin Murray | Valparaiso played solid defense against the defending national champions for most of the match, but in the end, second seeded Notre Dame was too much for the Crusaders, as the Fighting Irish defeated the Brown and Gold 6-0 on Friday evening in the First Round of the NCAA Women's College Cup before 1,530 fans at Alumni Field in South Bend, Ind.

Three Mid-Con women’s soccer players named to Academic All-District teams

| Oral Roberts' Jessica Kellogg | Three Mid-Continent Conference women’s soccer players were named to the 2005 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Women’s Soccer team announced by CoSIDA. Oral Roberts senior forward Jessica Kellogg was named to the District VI second team while Southern Utah senior defender Liz Browning and junior midfielder Ashley Smith were named to the District VIII second team.

Valparaiso wins first-ever Mid-Con Women’s Soccer Championship

| 2005 Mid-Con Women's Soccer Champions - Valparaiso University | After losing in its previous two appearances in the Mid-Continent Conference Women’s Soccer Championship match, second-seeded Valparaiso broke through and claimed its first-ever tournament crown with a 3-1 win over top-seeded Oakland at the 2005 Mid-Continent Conference Women’s Soccer Championship, which was held at the ORU Soccer Complex in Tulsa, Okla. With the win, the Crusaders claim the Mid-Con’s automatic bid into the 2005 NCAA Women’s College Cup, which begins Nov. 11. The pairings will be announced tomorrow on ESPNews between 5-5:30 p.m. (Eastern).

Oakland and Valparaiso advance to the 2005 Mid-Con Women’s Soccer Championship game

| Kristi Swaving scored twice to lead OU to the win | TULSA, OKLA. - Top-seeded Oakland and No. 2 seed Valparaiso posted semifinal wins Friday night to advance to the 2005 Mid-Continent Conference Women’s Soccer Championship game on Sunday. The single-elimination tourney is being held at the ORU Soccer Complex on the campus of Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla. Oakland defeated No. 4 seed Western Illinois, 3-1, to return to the title match for the fifth time in six years. In the nightcap, Valparaiso eliminated third-seeded Southern Utah, 2-0, avenging a 1-0 loss to the Thunderbirds on the last weekend of conference play.
