ORU Falls to #12 Washington in First Round of NCAA Tournament

SEATTLE, Wash. – The Oral Roberts University men's tennis team saw its eight match win streak snapped in the opening round match of the 2005 NCAA Tournament, as they fell 4-0 to #12 Washington at the Bill Quillian on Friday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles ended the year with a 13-13 mark, including a perfect 6-0 mark in conference play.

Washington (19-4) advances on to take on #21 Southern California tomorrow, May 14, at 2 p.m. with the winner advancing onto the NCAA's Round of 16 in College Station, Texas.

ORU fell behind 1-0 early, after the Huskies claimed the doubles point with wins in the No. 2 and 3 matches. It was more of the same during singles action, as Washington won the first three matches en route to their 4-0 sweep.

Cuan Farquharson (Durbin, South Africa) fell at the No. 3 singles spot, falling to #44 Alex Slovic, 6-1, 6-0. The Huskies' Mike Ricks then topped Adam Ehrlich (St. Louis, Missouri), 6-1, 6-1, to give the home team a 2-0 lead.

The match came to a close when #6 Alex Vlaski outlasted Wessel Kemp (Pretoria, South Africa), 6-3, 6-2, to clinch the victory for Washington.
