Oakland's Chris Tansel and Western Illinois' Amber Piercy were selected as the Mid-Con Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week after solid performances to open the 2005-06 campaign.
MEN
Chris Tansel, Oakland

Tansel led the Golden Grizzlies to a third place finish at the Dennis Stark Relays by guiding his squad to a trio of events wins. The sophomore opened the meet with a meet-record performance in the 400 medley relay. The team’s time of 3:26.76 breaks the previous mark set by Notre Dame in 2003. He also helped OU break the meet record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:33.41. Additionally, Tansel led the Golden Grizzlies to a first place finish in the 400 butterfly relay (3:27.65).

WOMEN
Amber Piercy, Western Illinois
Freshman, Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead
In her first collegiate meet, Piercy picked up a pair of first place finishes and added a second place effort in a loss to Saint Louis. The freshman posted a time of 10:44.55 in the 1,000-yard freestyle to top the next closes competitor by more than 12 seconds. She also touched the wall first in the 500 freestyle with a mark of 4:55.08, which edged SLU’s Jenny Lutzen by two seconds. Piercy helped her squad to a second place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:44.04).
