Mid-Con announces Fall Academic All-Conference Team
ELMHURST, ILL. — With the first semester of the 2005-06 academic year in the books, the Mid-Continent Conference has announced its Academic All-Conference Teams for the fall season. A total of 333 Mid-Con student-athletes from the sports of men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball were honored for their academic excellence.
Valparaiso led the way with a league-best 61 selections to the Academic All-Conference squad, edging out Centenary, Oakland and Western Illinois which had 48 recipients apiece. IUPUI landed 40 student-athletes on the academic list, followed by Oral Roberts with 31 recipients and UMKC with 23 selections. Southern Utah (22 recipients) and Chicago State (12) also had student-athletes recognized for their academic achievements. Of the 331 student-athletes that were honored, 32 posted perfect 4.00 grade point averages during the fall semester.
In order for a student-athlete to be selected to the Academic All-Conference team, he/she must meet the following criteria: have a 3.00 or better grade point average in the semester in which they compete; must be a letterwinner in the sport in which they compete.
