Oral Roberts to face Memphis in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament

| 2006 Mid-Con Men's Basketball Champions - Oral Roberts | ELMHURST, ILL. — Oral Roberts claimed its first-ever Mid-Continent Conference basketball tournament championship with an 85-72 victory over #6 seed Chicago State in the Mid-Con final. With the win, the Golden Eagles earned the league’s automatic berth into the 2006 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament and will appear in the “Big Dance” for the first time since 1984. ORU will face #1 seed Memphis in the first round of the tourney to be played in Dallas, Texas on Friday, March 17, a game that can be seen on CBS.

| Oral Roberts University - 2005-06 Mid-Con Men's Basketball Champions | TULSA, OKLA. - After falling on a last-second shot in the Mid-Con Championship game a year ago, top-seeded Oral Roberts redeemed itself with its first-ever Mid-Continent Conference men’s basketball championship with an 85-72 victory over #6 seed Chicago State in the final of the 2006 Toshiba Mid-Continent Conference Men’s Basketball Championship at John Q. Hammons Arena at the UMAC in Tulsa, Okla. The Golden Eagles have earned the conference’s bid into the NCAA Tournament and will find out their opponent when the bracket is announced on Sunday, March 12 at 6 p.m. on CBS. It is ORU’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1984.

| Chicago State's David Holston | TULSA, OKLA. - Just hours after the sixth-seeded Oakland women’s basketball team secured a spot in the final, #6 Chicago State did the same on the men’s side, posting a 57-53 upset win over second-seeded IUPUI, the regular season co-champion, in the second semifinal of the 2006 Toshiba Mid-Continent Conference Men’s Basketball Championship at John Q. Hammons Arena at the UMAC in Tulsa, Okla. The Cougars will play in the Championship game for the first time in school history against #1 Oral Roberts at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7 with the league’s automatic big to the NCAA Tournament up for grabs. The Championship contest can be seen on ESPN with Ron Franklin and Fran Fraschilla calling the action.

This year, it was #6 Chicago State that posted a 75-66 victory over third-seeded UMKC in the opening round of the 2006 Toshiba Mid-Continent Conference Men’s Basketball Championship. Hammons Arena at the UMAC in Tulsa Okla. to advance to the semifinals of the 2006 Toshiba Mid-Continent Conference Men’s Basketball Championship. The Crusaders will play #1 seed Oral Roberts Monday, March 5 at 6 p.m. for a spot in the title game. It will be the first time that Oral Roberts and Valparaiso have met in the Mid-Con Championship since 1993, a 73-69 Valpo win in the Championship game.
