He’ll shoot the Amy Adams comedy

High concept comedy Leap Year, which already boasts Amy Adams in the lead, has now snagged a director in the shape of Anand Tucker.
The man who last worked on Shopgirl and When Did You Last See Your Father? has agreed to helm the film for Spyglass Entertainment, reports Variety.
Leap Year’s plot finds Adams as a young woman who journeys to Dublin to propose to her boyfriend on February 29 to take advantage of the old Irish tradition that says the bloke has to agree.

The first trailer for Superbad director Greg Mottola’s new pic, Adventureland, has gone up, and you can see it here.
Adventureland, partly based on Mottola’s own life experiences, follows college graduate Jesse Eisenberg forced to take a summer job at a low-rent amusement park to help fund his travels.
The pic co-stars Twilight’s Kristen Stewart, Ryan Reynolds, Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig and – in a bonus for Freaks & Geeks-loving Apatow fans – Martin Starr.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, teen vampire romance tale Twilight has snagged first place at the US box office this weekend.
Given the already swarming fanbase and huge advanced ticket orders, the last week has simply been a build-up to how big the film would launch – and the answer is $70.6 million. That sound you hear is the sequel cranking up already.
Quantum Of Solace held strong and narrowly snatched second place with $27.

It seems that Scarlett Johansson has been getting into her Spirit character this month.
As the trailer proves, Silken Floss is a fan of push-up bras and low-cut tops, and Scarlett has been taking the look on the road in November.
Whether she's starring in a Spirit promo pic, featuring in offcuts from an Allure photoshoot, or hitting the red carpet, Ms Johansson is putting her cleavage front and centre.

He’s nabbed the lead in the Romero remake

Timothy Olyphant has scored the lead role in Breck Eisner’s remake of George Romero’s horror The Crazies.
The 1973 original saw a small Kansas town beset by madness and death after a plane crashes and releases a bioweapon into the water supply.
The Hollywood Reporter has it that Olyphant will play the town’s sheriff, who must act when his fellow locals start going, well, crazy.

The new trailer for Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs has arrived.
What is it, Trailer Friday, or something? Studios have clearly decided that what we either want on our computers is either animated antics or Mickey Rourke’s shattered mug.
Still, the new trailer for Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs, certainly features something Darren Aronofsky can’t provide – a lunatic squirrel creature hunting for that ever-precious acorn.

Max Payne co-star Mila Kunis has joined the cast of Denzel Washington’s new thriller The Book Of Eli.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kunis will play a sexy woman named Solara, who is recruited by Eli (Washington)’s enemies to betray him.
But the hero, who is trying to protect a sacred book that holds the secret to saving the future of humanity in post-apocalyptic world, manages to convince her to join his quest.

Imagi Studios has released the first teaser trailer for Astro Boy.
The film, from the makers of TMNT, is adapted from the classic Manga series, sees a robotic boy struggling to live up to his father’s expectations, Pinocchio-style, but ultimately ending up a hero.
The voice cast includes Freddie Highmore, Kristen Bell, Nicholas Cage, Bill Nighy and Donald Sutherland.
Long wait
If you’ve been waiting for this one, get ready to keep holding that breath – the film doesn’t arrive until late 2009. Curse those long ‘toon development schedules!
