Universal remaking The Host

Gore Verbinski’s producing the creature feature

Universal Pictures has signed newcomer Fredrik Bond to direct and Pirates helmer Gore Verbinski to produce a remake of 2006 Korean thriller The Host.

Fredrik, who has worked on music videos and adverts, will take the helm for the movie, which will follow roughly the same plot of a squid-alike beast terrorising a small town.

Smart People writer Mark Poirier is at work on a script that will find a dysfunctional family banding together to rescue a snatched young girl.

Spike Jonze has finally started to talk about his long-gestating adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s Where The Wild Things Are.

For a while now, we’ve been hearing rumours of trouble on the film, of studio worries and interference. Now Ain’t It Cool has tracked down Jonze for a sprawling, info-packed horse’s mouth chat.

And the good news is, it sounds like the movie’s progressing nicely.

Fox planning young X-Men spin-off

Josh Schwartz is writing First Class

20th Century Fox is ramping up development on younger X-Men tale First Class, commissioning OC creator Josh Schwartz to write the script.

Variety has no exact word on what the plot will be, but it’ll focus on the younger characters from the series, which means wiping out the hefty fees from more established stars such as Hugh Jackman.

And it’s not like the studio is dragging this idea out of nowhere – Marvel launched the First Class comic in 2006, featuring such X-typed as Rogue, Angel, Colossus and Shadowcat.

The first trailer for Rod Lurie’s latest, Nothing But The Truth, has arrived, and you can watch it below.

The based-on truth drama stars Kate Beckinsale, Alan Alda, Vera Farmiga and Matt Dillon.

Lurie’s drama finds a journalist (Beckinsale) facing jail after outing the identity of a CIA agent.

True Story

The plot is based on the real-life Valerie Plame affair, which saw the agent exposed in the media by the outgoing US administration after her husband wrote an unflattering piece about it in the New York Times.

King Of Kong helmer tackling heist drama

King Of Kong director Seth Gordon is attached to Suicide Squad for Working Title.

Now that he’s finished working on Vince Vaughn comedy Four Christmases, Gordon plans to start developing the heist film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Suicide Squad finds a desperate con man out on his latest parole who forms a gang of amateur criminals to rip off the Kentucky Derby.

Yes, after all the talk of footage screenings and the picture releases, not to mention the shipbuilding teaser, the first full trailer for Star Trek has arrived.

Now we can all get a proper look at moving footage of the new Enterprise crew – including Chris Pine as James Tiberius Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as McCoy and Simon Pegg as Scotty.

Life’s rough when you’re a stranded astronaut

Fresh new images have arrived of Sam Rockwell in space drama Moon.

The film finds Rockwell as an American space explorer slowly going astro-nuts (sorry) as he’s trapped for years on an isolated lunar outpost.

His only real companion is a robot, voiced by Kevin Spacey.

TMNT helmer making War Monkeys

Kevin Monroe will direct the horror

He’s still best known for making Turtle ‘toon TMNT in 2007, but director Kevin Munroe is planning to direct horror pic War Monkeys.

While he’s about to be busy helming graphic novel-based pic Dead Of Night, he’s deep into negotiations to take on Monkeys, based on a script by Chris Nettles.

"It's kind of like if Quentin Tarantino did Gremlins, Nettles first told me.
