"No, Arianna can’t make it,” said the birthday boy. “But,” he continued, sipping his whiskey, “she sent me a birthday email today.” Arianna Huffington, it seems, doesn’t much make it out to Bed-Stuy on a Sunday... MORE >

The gridlock that seized the runway before the L.A.M.B. show last night had its heart near a cluster of seats in the front row -- one seat, one empty seat, had pulled in a growing orb of press and PR flacks. When The Observer finally shouldered through the crescent of photographers and video crews ready to pounce on the expected celebrity, we snatched a glace at the name: Matt Damon. "I heard it was actually... MORE >
Jeremy Scott's show at Milk yesterday had a lot of colors: bubblegum, magenta, tangerine, algae, ruby, soft lime, phoenix orange, neon lemonade. By the time the designer and his crew had migrated to to Le Bain, however, the colors had drained -- the crowd, sandwiched together, wore mostly black and the bar was as dark-lit as it could be. As expected, Misshapes played New Wave standards. Leigh Lezark was wearing a Jeremy Scott skeleton dress.... MORE >

Four nights of Fashion Week parties left The Observer with plenty of notes, a few hazy recollections and very little energy to tell the... MORE >
Last Saturday, PETA hauled out their homemade signs and hard-fought idealism to protest Donna Karan, one of the biggest fashion designers to not yet sign the petition pledging to excise all furs from her Fall 2011 collection. In order to drive the argument home, PETA supporters played the sound of screaming rabbits outside Karan's office. But judging by today's Dennis Bass show, they picked the wrong titan of fashion to... MORE >

Walking down the steps to the Kenmare basement last night, The Observer saw singer Sky Ferreira, eighteen and perhaps a pop star in the making, leaning over with one arm tethering that explosion of blond hair, a gem-studded silver necklace spreading like cracked glass just above her chest. Her mouth was open in an oval and her lips were painted grapefruit red. She was looking right at... MORE >
Three name cards were set at yesterday's Calvin Klein Men's show, and they would portend the feeling of the rest of the event: "JOE JONAS... ZAC EFRON... AMAR'E STOUDEMIRE." A front row lineup for the ages! The Efron-Jonas power duo arrived in near-matching suits -- one black, one gray -- fitted snugly and affixed with a certain type of skinny tie. The cut was such that they had basically walked out of the pages of... MORE >
At all three parties The Observer attended Saturday night, we heard the usual refrains from the people guarding the door: "You're wasting your time;" "I can't help you tonight, sir;" "No" (our personal favorite). We got in anyway, of... MORE >
Last night at The Ace Hotel we found ourselves staring at a bevy of half-naked male models standing silent and still for hours. "I heard they're all on mushrooms," a partygoer told The Observer. We hoped they were, given how long they had to play mannequin. It was GQ's Best New Menswear Designers party, and if these models had ingested some hallucinogenics beforehand perhaps the paralysis would have been more... MORE >
It was an eyeball-to-eyeball meeting of the world's most iconic glasses. Spectacular, you might even say. Last night, at the amfAR gala, Woody Allen spoke to The Observer about his friendship with Elton John. "Yes, I'm excited," Allen said in reference to the song Elton would be performing with Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, and Dionne Warwick. "I mean I know Elton slightly--he's been to my house for dinner and I know him and I like... MORE >
It's the first day of Fashion Week, and we've just started the plunge into endless runways shows, presentations, and after parties. And with constant overlap and unfeasible transportation times, there are going to be a lot of events that just can't make the cut. Which ones to attend and which ones to skip? One good answer: go with Anna Wintour. We found the Vogue editrix standing by her table at Cipriani last night with boyfriend... MORE >
