King of His Castle

Just when you thought you’ve seen it all from multitalented hustler Nick Cannon, the Hollywood veteran has shifted his focus and is now set to take on Las Vegas with his unique comedy extravaganza.

“Oh, man. I’m excited for March 5. It’s something I’ve been working toward all my life,” Cannon says over the phone. “I’m finally getting to do my own comedy special.” For those of you who only know Cannon from his marriage to Mariah Carey and wacky rapping on MTV’s Wild ’N Out, he actually started his career doing stand-up comedy on a cable access show concocted by his dad. After moving to Los Angeles in his mid-teens, Cannon refined his comedy skills at the Improv, the Laugh Factory and the famed Comedy Store.

Now 30, he wants to showcase his stand-up chops. “I’ve been putting in a lot of work for the last year building this act and getting the opportunity to get out there and express my voice. I’ve been quiet for a while,” he says.

From having twins with Carey to Internet beefs with Eminem, Cannon won’t be at a loss for hot topics to tackle. “It’s so therapeutic, and it’s just so ready,” Cannon says. “I couldn’t think of a better time for me to get out there and just express everything that I’ve been feeling for so long. And it’s all in fun, too. I can’t wait.”

Cannon can’t wait for the chance to bring Las Vegas back to its entertainment roots.

“Vegas is perfect for this show because I am such a fan of the showmen of yesteryear,” he says. “Like, Sammy Davis Jr. and the Rat Pack. I want to bring that flair to it.”
