By Ben Popper | December 2, 2010 | 2:45 pm

Nick Denton and Henry Blodget were in a jovial mood today, chatting about the new media business at Business Insider's Ingnition Conference.  Blodget wanted to know if Denton, who recently penned an opus on Gawker's new direction, would be moving away from some of their most successful, but ethically questionable practices, like paying for scoops. "I love paying for information!" Denton affirmed, estimating that the $12,000 Gawker paid for pictures of Brett Farve's penis have added... MORE >

The New Yorker's Nick Denton Profile Posted Online

By Nate Freeman | October 11, 2010 | 9:44 am

"Search and Destroy," New Yorker scribe Ben McGrath's 10,000-word profile of Gawker Media overlord Nick Denton, went live on the magazine's website around midnight last night. It's thorough, witty and well-sourced, as it allows quotes from the acid-tongued chorus of former and current Gawker writers to create a somewhat fresh — albeit still slightly clouded — take on a figure that has already been endlessly picked... Why AOL Bought Techcrunch: It's Getting Crushed by Gawker

By Ben Popper | September 28, 2010 | 12:48 pm

AOL has officially purchased Techcrunch. The media giant has been eyeing the indie blog since as far back as 2008. But a quick look at AOL's recent slide in covering the tech sector shows why it finally sealed the deal. A year ago Endgadget and Gizmodo, the respective tech blogs of AOL and Gawker, were fairly even in terms of traffic. That trend held until about January of this year, when AOL even briefly took...
