European Mythos servers to close next week

Online games publisher Frogster has announced that it will be shutting the European servers for its MMORPG Mythos on October 27. According to a statement on the game's official forum, the reason for the closure is a lack of "long-term success".

"Mythos enjoyed great popularity with the launch in April and the numerous registered users ensured a good start," the post reads. "The desired long-term success unfortunately did not follow. Under these circumstances, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue the operation of Mythos."

In preparation, Frogster has halted all in-game item purchasing and will be overseeing a series of final "monster invasions". Registered players who have played the game in the past three months will be offered Runes Of Magic vouchers in compensation, along with beta keys for Frogster's latest MMOG Eligium.

Mythos was originally in production at Flagship Studios, which closed in 2008 before reforming as Torchlight developer Runic Games. At that point, all assets and IP for the Mythos were transferred to Korean developer Hanbitsoft, and it launched in April of the same year.
