Children's Fantasy

A film with many elements of fantasy, generally with very toned-down violence aimed more pointedly at children. A blossoming of the form occurred with the ascendancy of the puppets of Jim Henson and Frank Oz. In movies populated by their creations, like Dark Crystal, and Labyrinth, they established a friendly but wildly imaginative element to fantasy that was easily accessible to children. Film adaptations of popular literature for children and young adults surged in the 2000s, most notably with Harry Potter and The Chronicles of Narnia.
