With four days of non-stop gigging from over 1,500 bands, South by Southwest is a sonic smorgasboard of new and exciting sounds gathered under the Texas sun, and The Current will help bring some of the amazing music at SXSW to you! We'll be webcasting NPR's artist showcase featuring Sharon Van Etten, Andrew Bird and more tonight at 9 p.m., with more performances to come in the next few days. You can watch at this page.
Mark Wheat, Andrea Swensson and Program Director Jim McGuinn will also become The Current's ambassadors to SXSW in Austin, Texas from March 15-17. They'll be on hand to send back the sights and sounds from the world's biggest annual music gathering. Check out more details of their coverage.

Walking into the Amsterdam Bar & Hall on Saturday night was an immediately disorienting experience. At one end of the room, the Le Cirque Rouge Burlesque troupe was wrapping up a cabaret show, their house band giving the darkened space a speakeasy vibe while a woman performed a 3D striptease from behind a sheet. In another part of the room, a wedding reception was just wrapping up, the bride and groom's families slowly being edged out by impatient rock fans.... full post
