ABC Spark is an upcoming Canadian English language Category B specialty channel, expected to launch on March 26, 2012[1]. It is based on the U.S. cable network ABC Family and will focus on programming aimed at teenagers and preteens (which differs slightly from ABC Family's broader target audience of families, teens and young adults). The network will be wholly owned by Corus Entertainment, with its name licensed from the Disney-ABC Television Group division of The Walt Disney Company.[2]

The use of the name "ABC Spark", as opposed to "ABC Family", is presumably to avoid any confusion with the existing Astral-owned Canadian cable channel Family, which incidentally draws most of its programming lineup from ABC Family's sister cable network Disney Channel.

[edit] Expected programming

Selected ABC Family programs set to air on ABC Spark will air in special blocks in advance of the network's launch starting on January 16, 2012 on Corus-owned sister channels YTV, W Network and CMT Canada.[1]
