  Countries currently operating aircraft carriers
  Historic operators of aircraft carriers

This list of aircraft carriers contains all aircraft carriers which are currently in service, in reserve or being constructed or rebuilt. It only refers to the status of the ship, not availability or condition of an air wing. Several navies operate large amphibious assault ships or other helicopter carriers that may even be occasionally tasked as aircraft carriers but their primary purpose is landing troops and equipment in expeditionary operations or supporting multiple ASW or other naval helicopters, not providing fixed wing air cover or power projection operations, many are not even equipped for these aircraft and operations. Many aircraft carriers have also performed a secondary role as different types of helicopter carrier especially toward the end of their life or when the fixed wing air group is not available.
