Sacred Heart Academy High School is a parochial parish, Roman Catholic high school in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. It is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saginaw. Sacred Heart has a reputation for educating the children of various successful people and university faculty around town.[citation needed] 100% of 2014 graduates continued their education by enrolling in a college and/or university, and all students complete a community service requirement of 100 hours.[1]

As a Catholic centered school, community service and faith-based education are emphasized.

Founding[edit]

Sacred Heart Academy was established in 1889. It was run at the time by a small group of Dominican Sisters.

Current School[edit]

The entire school is under the direction of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saginaw. Sacred Heart Academy occupies two buildings. The main building is the high school. Its neighbor is the elementary school. The high school instructs students in grades 7-12, while the elementary school teaches students in grades DK-6. The current principal is Mary Kay Yonker. Sacred Heart Academy (SHA) expanded its elementary school in the summer of 2008 by building on top of the previously one-story cafeteria to accommodate two new classrooms. Sacred Heart Academy operates as a day school and has no boarding accommodations.[2] The school will celebrate its 125th anniversary during the 2014-15 school year.
