Pleasant Ridge is a city in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,526 at the 2010 census.[3]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all land.

Pleasant Ridge began with the subdivision of the Mayday farm by Burt Taylor in 1913. It incorporated as a village in 1921 and as a city in 1927.[4] On December 1, 2009, the Pleasant Ridge City Council approved plans for the city's first bar. Pleasant Ridge had previously been a dry community.[5]

The City is named after the slight ridge that ran through the City.

As of the census of 2010, there were 2,526 people, 1,115 households, and 674 families residing in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 94.7% White, 1.94% African American, 0.12% Native American, 1.11% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.28% from other races, and 1.86% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.74% of the population[3] . There were 1,110 households out of which 29.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.5% were married couples living together, 7.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.8% were non-families. 26.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.87.

In the city the population was spread out with 22.0% under the age of 18, 3.9% from 18 to 24, 33.4% from 25 to 44, 29.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 99.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $80,682, and the median income for a family was $92,134. Males had a median income of $66,071 versus $44,231 for females. The per capita income for the city was $40,846. About 1.2% of families and 2.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.3% of those under age 18 and 2.0% of those age 65 or over.

Pleasant Ridge has a high percentage of same-sex couples. According to the 2010 Census, it has the seventh-highest rate of same-sex couples in the nation with 59.6 per 1,000.[6] It is adjacent to Ferndale, an LGBT-friendly Detroit suburb.[7]
