Luke M. Powers Catholic High School is a private, Roman Catholic high school in Flint, Michigan. It is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lansing.

Background[edit]

Powers Catholic High School was established in 1970. It was originally located on West Carpenter Road in Mount Morris Township, near Flint, Michigan. As of Spring 2007, there were 703[3] students attending. The current principal is Sally Bartos, and Brian Sheeran is assistant principal.[4] Because they were next-door neighbors until recently, Powers Catholic and Flint Northwestern High School shared Guy V. Houston Stadium as their home field for 22 years. When Atwood Stadium was temporarily closed due to an unsafe field in 1992, Powers Catholic began sharing a football stadium with Bendle High School in Burton, which became Holy Redeemer Field at the Luke M. Powers Athletic Complex, which became shortened to Holy Redeemer Field for Powers games and Powers Athletic Complex for Bendle games. Powers Catholic High School relocated to Court Street downtown Flint, next door to the Michigan School for the Deaf and Blind in 2013; its football team is expected to move into Atwood Stadium, replacing Flint Northern High School which closed earlier in the year. The school, and the suffix of Powers' previous home football stadium, are named for Father Luke M. Powers, a Catholic priest who was pastor of St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church in Flint for 29 years until retiring in 1966.
