Forty-ninth Commencement scheduled for May 12, 2012

Graduating seniors will receive bachelor of arts degrees during the 49th annual University of Minnesota, Morris Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 12, 2012. All faculty, staff, family, and friends are invited to gather on the mall to recognize the accomplishments of the graduates. The celebration begins with division receptions from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., and the ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m.

For those unable to sit outdoors, the ceremony is also streamed live to Edson Auditorium in the Student Center, and KKOK 95.7 broadcasts the ceremony live.

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will held in the Physical Education Center.

Following the ceremony, a reception will be held in Oyate Hall in the Student Center.

Commencement guests are invited to view the 2012 Senior Art Show in the Humanities Fine Arts Gallery before and after the ceremony.

Speaker

Eric Kaler, the University of Minnesota president

Eric Kaler, the University of Minnesota’s 16th president, is this year’s commencement speaker. President Kaler earned his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota’s Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science in 1982 and became one of the nation’s foremost experts on “complex fluids,” which are used in many applications, including drug delivery, the biotech industry, food processing, and the manufacturing of coatings and paints. Before coming “home” to Minnesota, Kaler served from 2007 to 2011 as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, N.Y. He was also Stony Brook’s vice president for Brookhaven National Laboratory affairs.
