[edit] Background

Loyola Sacred Heart was founded in 1873. It was originally two four year high schools, Sacred Heart Academy for Girls and Loyola High School (for boys). Sacred Heart Academy was founded and run by the Sisters of Providence, Loyola by the Society of Jesus or Jesuits.

In 1974 the two schools merged into a new school, ultimately called Loyola Sacred Heart High School. The first principal of the co-ed school was Orlando R. Barone of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He served six years.
