RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: Dredd, Frankenweenie, and More (43 comments)

by Ryan Fujitani on Tuesday, Jan. 08 2013, 09:43 AM

This week, we return to a regular rotation of home video releases with a few notable selections and, as always, a few less than notable ones. Among the choices are a well received comic-based action film, Tim Burton's latest stop-motion project, a Qatsi-esque visual collage, and a ripped-from-the-headlines thriller. In addition, there's also a Jennifer Lawrence-powered horror dud, a hit-and-miss road trip comedy, and an implausible Nic Cage heist flick. Click through for the full list!

RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: Smart Sci-Fi Flick Looper (15 comments)

by Ryan Fujitani on Monday, Dec. 24 2012, 02:20 PM

Last week was the longest RT on DVD article of the year, and this week, we've got the shortest RT on DVD article ever. While most films opted to hit the home video market before Christmas and take full advantage of the holiday buying rush, our one release today decided to throw caution to the wind. Rian Johnson's Looper is the only home video release worth talking about this week, so without further ado, let's talk about it.

RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: Total Recall, Pitch Perfect, and Lots More (20 comments)

by Ryan Fujitani on Tuesday, Dec. 18 2012, 07:37 PM

With Christmas just a week away, it's not surprising that so many films found their way into home video release this week. As such, there's a pretty wide variety available, ranging from sci-fi blockbusters to indie comedies, from dramas to action thrillers, and even a little something for the kids. On top of that, we've got a pretty solid number of Certified Fresh films in the mix, so click through for our longer-than-usual list!

RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: Ted and The Bourne Legacy (14 comments)

by Ryan Fujitani on Tuesday, Dec. 11 2012, 03:11 PM

This week on home video, we've got a couple of franchise sequels and Seth MacFarlane's live action big screen debut. Criterion unveils an early Christopher Nolan film and a unique cinematic trilogy, and Drafthouse Films reintroduces the world to a forgotten relic of the 1980s. Click through for the full list!

RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: The Dark Knight Rises Completes the Trilogy (45 comments)

by Ryan Fujitani on Monday, Dec. 03 2012, 04:50 PM

This week on home video, we've got some good new releases and a few reissues worth mentioning. Among them are the final chapter of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, an award-winning indie drama that got a lot of people talking this year, and a couple of Pixar movies available in new sets. Click through for the full list!

RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: MIB III and ParaNorman (24 comments)

by Ryan Fujitani on Tuesday, Nov. 27 2012, 11:46 AM

Last week we suffered from a dearth of worthy titles on home video, so it's nice that we have a wider variety to talk about this week. We start things off with a return visit with the Men in Black and another spooky stop-motion animation from the people who made Coraline. Then, we've got a couple of movies about siblings (some gangsters, and some motown singers), the latest in hippity-hoppitiest dance franchise, and another haunted house movie that bombed. RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: Expendables 2 Brings Home the Action (21 comments)

by Ryan Fujitani on Monday, Nov. 19 2012, 04:20 PM

This may be the week of Thanksgiving and Black Friday, but it looks like home video distributors didn't much care. There is so little coming out tomorrow that we're limiting our selection to just four entries. Thankfully, they're all fairly notable items, so click through to see the full list!

RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: Brave, Savages, and The Watch (38 comments)

by RT Staff on Tuesday, Nov. 13 2012, 02:02 PM

This week on home video, we've got a pretty big variety to choose from. The best we have to offer ranges between a solid Pixar effort, an engrossing documentary, and a few classics. Then we have a few films that left critics largely undecided, and lastly there's at least one misfire that's at least an interesting misfire. Click through for the full list!

RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: The Amazing Spider-Man Swings Home (33 comments)

by Ryan Fujitani and Tim Ryan on Tuesday, Nov. 06 2012, 01:00 PM

This week on home video, we get the recent reboot of a Marvel icon, a couple of Christmas movies for kids, a drama that should have been better than it was, an indie comedy critics liked, and a Billy Wilder classic on Blu-ray. Click through for the full list!

RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: The Campaign and Alfred Hitchcock (24 comments)

by Ryan Fujitani on Monday, Oct. 29 2012, 05:30 PM

This week on home video, our biggest movie is also the lowest-rated one on the list. This isn't to say it isn't any good (it still earned a 66% on the Tomatometer), but the smaller releases and the Blu-ray reissues are much stronger. Click through to see the full list!

RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: Magic Mike and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (36 comments)

by Ryan Fujitani on Tuesday, Oct. 23 2012, 02:08 PM

This week on home video, we get Steven Soderbergh's male stripper drama, some supernatural revisionist American history, and Tyler Perry's latest Madea comedy. On top of that, there's also the apocalyptic road trip rom-com, an understated relationship drama, and a couple of classics reissued. Click through for the full list!

RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: Moonrise Kingdom and Madagascar 3 (58 comments)

by Alex Vo on Tuesday, Oct. 16 2012, 05:25 AM

Wes Anderson came back in a big way this year (even bigger than surprising the world with his animated masterpiece Fantastic Mr. Fox) and now his Moonrise Kingdom is now available to own on DVD. On top of that, we got something new from DreamWorks Animation, an Adam Sandler joint, and some lo-fi horror from the creator of Paranormal Activity. Click through for the full list!

RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: Prometheus and Rock of Ages (88 comments)

by Ryan Fujitani on Tuesday, Oct. 09 2012, 01:40 PM

We know, we know; a lot of you were looking forward to a lot more than what you were given in Prometheus. Well, if you want to rewatch it and rehash it with your friends, it's finally out on video this week. But while Prometheus was one of the most anticipated, most talked-about movies of the year so far, there are some other items of note, like a rock musical, a couple of Hitchcock movies on Blu-ray, and a magical film by Steven Spielberg. RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: Cinderella and Dark Shadows (29 comments)

by Ryan Fujitani on Tuesday, Oct. 02 2012, 02:49 PM

This week on home video, Disney releases another one of its timeless classics on Blu-ray, and Tim Burton's latest collaboration with Johnny Depp and Danny Elfman hits shelves. Beyond that, we've got a handful of movies -- good and bad -- that only a few people saw and Blu-ray reissues of another beloved storybook movie and a moody Wong Kar Wai film. Click through for the full list!

RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: Katy Perry and The Cabin in the Woods (77 comments)

by Ryan Fujitani on Tuesday, Sep. 18 2012, 05:38 AM

This week on home video, we've got a lot of new releases to discuss, including some very well-received movies and a couple of outright flops, as well as a collection of movies some of us have been waiting quite a while to get on Blu-ray. Click through for the full list!

RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: Snow White and the Huntsman (24 comments)

by RT Staff on Tuesday, Sep. 11 2012, 02:21 PM

We're coming off a pretty dismal box office weekend, as you may or may not know, and it's kind of indicative of this time of year in general. This means it trickles down to the home video releases, so while we do have at least one blockbuster hitting shelves, most of our releases were either barely seen or poorly reviewed; in some cases, both. Click through to see the full list!

RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: The Harry Potter Wizard's Collection Arrives (27 comments)

by Ryan Fujitani on Tuesday, Sep. 04 2012, 05:45 PM

There is one big release on home video this week that sort of outshines the others, so even though there are some new films that are coming out on DVD and Blu-ray, we thought it best to lead with the rather impressive Harry Potter set. With that said, we've also got a new set for a different blockbuster juggernaut, a new Buster Keaton movie in hi-def, and a few new releases, so click through for the full list!

RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: Battleship and Think Like a Man (38 comments)

by Ryan Fujitani on Tuesday, Aug. 28 2012, 11:39 AM

The biggest movies available on home video this week aren't exactly critical darlings, but to balance out the big robots and formulaic romances, we've got a couple of acclaimed indies, a new Criterion, and a ton of 100th anniversary Blu-rays from Universal. Click through for the full list!

RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: The Dictator, A Separation, and Some Disney Classics (28 comments)

by Ryan Fujitani on Tuesday, Aug. 21 2012, 12:43 PM

This week on home video, we've got one big comedy and a bunch of smaller films that critically fared much better (with the exception of one, which probably should have been better). Then we've got a notable Blu-ray reissue and a few movies from the Disney vault. Click through for the full list!
