An estimated 8 million dogs and cats enter animal shelters in the U.S. each year, and approximately 4 million – or 11,000 each day – are euthanized. PetSmart Charities strives to bring attention to the availability of pets at shelters and rescue groups and to the benefits of pet adoption.

    PetSmart Charities is funding a new program called Fostering 4 Rock Stars that aims to double the number of kittens that animal welfare groups can save.

    The program, which is managed by the Cat Adoption Team, advocates for pre-adopting kittens before they're spayed or neutered. It's a "shelter without walls" concept: the kitten remains in foster care until their surgery, after which their new family takes them home. The kittens never return to the shelter, boosting their chances of staying healthy.

    Wow! Thank you EVERYONE for helping us reach our goal! We are so touched by the stories you have shared with us, and we will continue to keep you involved in helping us find forever homes for so many pets.

    Our national adoption weekend is coming up September 14th through September 16th at Petsmart retail stores nationwide. With your help, we will help thousands of pets find their forever homes.
