#1 for me would be a tie between "Die Hard" and "Christmas Vacation". But some I missed here: "Santa Clause 2"....the scene with the gifts and the teachers was pretty funny. And then "Four Christmases" and "Fred Claus". Both have V. Vaughn in it...but there's some good parts about them anyway. Like P. Giamatti in Fred Claus...awesome! Then there's "Mixed Nuts" and "Deck The Halls". Maybe not the best-loved movies...but there were worse ones on this list. Another guilty pleasure for me, despite the hate, is "Christmas with the Kranks"....can't hate a movie with D. Aykroyd in it and the scene where Allen gives away his cruise to M. Emmet Walsh is pretty nice.

Love, Actually makes people violently ill or just violent. Hardly keeping in the spirit of Christmas.

I tried watching 'Love, Actually' once. I got about 30 minutes through it. Raw, seething hatred, Actually. Glad to see Die Hard, Bad Santa, Muppet CC and Scrooged good and high. Disappointed to see Home Alone so close to the top, I've never understood the love for the film.

The Christmas present that Love Actually provides is that most of the cast of it do bog all now I wonder why, oh I know because it is a cheesy, insulting pile of contrived and mechanistically made piece of sell out bollocks. Knightmare Before Christmas is not a bloody Christmas movie, at least Bad Santa has a message at the end. Topping it off It's A Wonderful F£$%^ING LIFE? When films are so depressing and childish they make you want to wipe out a school with a pitchfork they are not in the Christmas spirit. Why is Jesus of Nazareth not there? Or King of Kings? He is the only reason Christmas exists and here is a beautiful Christmas message, have an Arab play Jesus that is what he was after all dark skin and robes, oh careful James unpopular statement.

Very surprised to see Elf so near the top, not that it doesn't deserve it.

As @endofdays mentioned earlier (well, they said Chingle instead of Jingle) - where is the Arnie classic Jingle All The Way?

I prefer the 90's version of "Miracle On 34th Street". Very good list though.

The Hogfather should definitely be on this list! Every year I try to do 25 days of Christmas and I’ve always had a tough time filling each night with a Christmas movie. This list paired with the fact that I can do theme searches on my DISH Hopper guarantees me that I’ll easily be able to have my 25 days of Christmas this year. I’ve heard good things about Rare Exports from a few of the people I work with at DISH, so I’m going to make sure that this is one I see. If it’s not already playing on TV, I can just stream it through the Blockbuster @Home app.

There's not a gigantic abundance of christmas films in the world, to make a list this big of movies actually worth watching, you would have to include movies set around the holidays. It's a wonderful life is definetely the greatest christmas movie of all time, who knows if anything will ever top it.

@ Igrayne your statements are incorrect. Christmas was a pagan holiday, known as Winter Solstice, that was around for centuries before christianity. The christians adopted all of the pagan holidays in an attempt to fade out the pagan traditions and convert the pagans to Christianity. So in essence, Christmas really has nothing to do with Jesus as far as its roots go, it was a nature festival to celebrate the rebirth of the sun. But of course if you enjoy incorporating Jesus into your holidays celebrations, that's great, but many people have different views.

How can you leave the REF off the list? I know most haven't heard of it but it does have a great cast and is funnier than Bad Santa. Denis Leary, Kevin Spacey, and Judy Davis were awesome. This movie has become a tradition for me and my wife to watch ever Christmas. The marketing of this movie is horrible. They should have and should market this movie as a Christmas movie because it's all about Christmas.

Although you'll always get 1000 different lists from 1000 different people it's also true to say that more broadly the values of the people who have put this list together are questionable as is their taste. Some good Christmas movies are not 'good' in the traditional sense, they may be slightly cheesy but everyone (or most at least) love them as they have common themes. I can't believe you put Elf and the Muppets in the top 5 or so, what the hell ! In my top 20 would be films like Love Actually, Planes Trains & Automobiles, Miracle on 34th Street (remake), Trapped In Paradise (Nic Cage), a couple of Christmas Carol remakes from 70's and 80's, Christmas with the Kranks, Trading Places, The Ref, Jingle All the Way. Yes they're not all about Christmas but set at Christmas time and ultimately have a 'christmassy feel'.
