Like the Iron Man 3 trailer, the Star Trek Into Darkness teaser features a voiceover from the main villain making an announcement to the populace.
It's also fairly bleak stuff, the trailer's absolutely packed with pain, with very little light out of the darkness.
The pictured scene appears to take place at a funeral, with Kirk (Chris Pine) addressing a crowd of people in formal dress, shortly before some planes fly over head in apparent tribute.
Has it got something to do with the opening sequence? Do some Star Fleet officers lose their lives in a pre-credits action sequence? We're betting yes.
But focusing on the voiceover itself, is it just us or does Benedict Cumberbatch sound a hell of a lot like Patrick Stewart here?
Is his still unnamed villain a JJ-universe Jean Luc-Picard? Probably not.
We've got a theory on who Cumberbatch is playing based on this trailer, and it's not JLP.
It's someone who would say "I have returned, to have my vengeance."

You're determined it be Khan, aren't you? Tbh i'd be a little disappointed if they remake Wrath of Khan instead of seizing the opportunity to do something completely fresh. Anyway... The Enterprise is coming out of the water after Kirk and Bones have jumped off the cliff in escape from their pursuers. And, er, the spaceship at the end is crashing not rising.

Toro in mind originally, maybe they had Khan in mind but changed the character when they got Cumberbatch, but they may have stuck with alot of the same story either way this looks awesome... they know how to tease... plus Alice Eve in a Starfleet uniform yum lol

Could Alice Eve be Dr. Carol Marcus? Probably not Janice Rand due to the uniform colour and general lack of beehive shaped hairdo!

And of course it's only our preconceptions that our telling us that it's Spock on the wrong side of the glass and not Kirk!

You guys missed the Klingons in part 5/6 - look at those helmets! It's the same design as the Klingon's that didn't make the cut from the previous film.

I think all this Wrath talk is misguided. It is more likely going to be a super charged retelling of Space Seed the original episode that featured Khan the first time around.

Sherlock, Smaug, Star Trek. Cumberbatch pretty much owns Comic-Con. Put him in the next Star Wars movie and he'll have the set. lol

I hope it isn't the plot you predict, as it sounds exactly like Skyfall...

Take a look at that "Spock death scene" shot and pay attention to the sleeves. I don't think that's Kirk and Spock, I think it's Cumberbatch's character and Spock. Granted, I can't guarantee that the characters won't change clothes, but what Cumberbatch is wearing doesn't look like standard uniform, which I think they'll be more likely to place Kirk in this time round considering the lack of him wearing it in the last movie.
