Clive Owen and Julia Roberts indulge in corporate spying

The trailer for Duplicity, the new drama from Michael Clayton writer-director Tony Gilroy, has gone online.

The plot finds a pair of former spies (Julia Roberts as an ex-CIA operative and Clive Owen as a one-time MI6 agent) who strike up a relationship and hatch a plan to swindle corporations for millions.

To do so, they both get jobs as security consultants for a pair of companies engaged in a tight products race. The big question is, can they trust each other?

A tale of Boston firemen

Samuel L Jackson is teaming up with writer-director Brian Goodman to try to make fire-fighter drama The Fallen.

Actor-turned-director Goodman, who is winning rave reviews for his Boston-set crime pic What Doesn’t Kill You, has been busy working on the script for the film, which follows the lives of a group of Boston firemen and deal with one of them becoming hooked on painkillers after an injury.

Taxi Driver writer and Auto Focus director Paul Schrader is leaving for Mumbai to write Bollywood action film Extreme City.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Schrader is finally so sick of Hollywood that he’s decided to take his writing talents elsewhere.

"I've been getting indie movies made for 20 years," he says. "But I take a good look around and what I see is a barren, barren place - in terms of the financial community, in terms of audiences, in terms of distribution.

Rear Window Writer Dies

John Michael Hayes RIP

Sad news to relate this morning as John Michael Hayes, the writer who worked on classic films such as Rear Window and Peyton Place, has died aged 89.

The screenwriter, who also worked with Alfred Hitchcock on To Catch A Thief and The Trouble With Harry, continued writing up until 1994, with Iron Will.

Born in Massachusetts, Hayes started his writing career on newspapers and radio and cracked Hollywood with a job on Lucille Ball’s radio show M Favourite Husband

Universal

The radio work led to a contract with Universal in the 1950s.

The life of the iconic French warbler

Universal has decided to launch a French-language arm, and the company’s first release will be a film based on the life of Je t’aime singer Serge Gainsbourg.

Variety reports that Eric Elmosnino will play Gainsbourg, who was known not only for his singing but for his string of famous, beautiful lovers, including Brigitte Bardot and Jane Birkin.

Sexy French model Laetitia Casta has signed on as Bardot, while Anna Mouglalis will play fellow singer Juliette Greco, who worked with Gainsbourg several times in his career.

Vera Farmiga joins Up In The Air

Co-starring with Clooney in Jason Reitman’s latest

The Departed’s Vera Farmiga has joined the cast of Jason Reitman’s new film, Up In The Air, agreeing to co-star alongside George Clooney.

Variety reports that Farmiga will play a businesswoman who meets up strikes up a relationship with Clooney forged from meetings in airports and hotels around the US.

Why the patchwork romance? Air’s plot, adapted by the Juno director from Walter Kirn’s novel sees Clooney’s human resources exec doggedly pursuing his millionth frequent flyer mile, only to have his life fall apart around him.
