Pitch

2

"I'd like Pacino on top of Baldwin." It's not often you get to hear those words - but then not often you get to see quite such a grim expo of the moviemaking world. Aspiring screenwriters Kenny Hotz (short, dark, intense) and Spencer Rice (taller, more laidback) head to LA and the Toronto International Film Festival to pitch their script. Trouble is, it's a steaming pile of horse puckey (a Mafia sex-change rom-com?) and they can't get anyone interested in either funding or starring in it.

There are moments of comedy - - thrusting the script into Al Pacino's paws, Arthur Hiller reminding them to remember what they're pitching, the duo's unfounded confidence in their lame-o product - - but the bad news is that Spencer and Kenny don't actually get anywhere. And after 81 minutes of seeing them hustling meetings and having phone calls blocked by low-level execs, you have to wonder what the point is. Moral? Doors slammed in faces do not an edge-of-seat documentary make.
