Ah this list is a crock of s**t. There seems to be a quite a few sequels that simply didn't live up to their predecessor/s, and movies that just werent that good, but very few have a reason to be truly hated. A fair chuck of these movies are not actually that bad, and im sorry but when your quoting a "I HATE MICHAEL BAYS TRANSFORMERS" fanpage, you must know your struggling. I don't know why it is, but these fanboys seem to think that any movie should be made to suit their needs coz they 'know the material' instead of telling a story that would sell better to the masses. That just doesn't make sense. This is poor effort of a list, D-.

Well, this was kind of a difficult list. So many different types of movies....so many different types of hatred. Some I couldn't agree more (Catwoman, Twilight, The Happening, Battlefield Earth). But quite some I actually liked, like Indy 4 (Indy is still Indy....just get rid of Shia!). TCM and X3 were no masterpieces, but far from being hated by me. And Forrest and Crash??? Of course everybody's got a different taste and sometimes it's cool to go with the flow and just hate a movie. But there were movies made that are more hated I guess than some of the ones in the list.

Good list. I knew mostly what to expect when i read it though. Sequels, remakes and adaptations of much loved source material. And the fanboy websites are where the hatred is going to be found.

AND I had to sit through the "Wrath" trailer when I went to the cinema over the weekend...I wanted to throw someone at the screen. Yep, someone. Not a typo.

As a list of "hated movies" its pretty c**p, lots of these are regarded well by a lot of people. However as a list of movies that inspire extreme, often stupidly rabid, negative reactions from a minority this does the job.

List is okay, althoug choosing to use forum users as the voice of reason seems dubious. Unless TF writers are the posters on those sites when they feel like going slumming. Anyhoo, I am probably in the minority (according to the article), but I prefer Ang Lee's Hulk to the new one.

I agree with most of the entries in this list and as an avid Star Wars and Indy fan I expected Episode 1 and Indy 4 to be up there but some of the "typical reviews" posted are ridiculous. Reviews that are simply mindless, thoughtless, lashouts at something they didnt like. A personal opinion is not a review. Granted, a lot of these movies were a let down or were just plain bad but "FUK U FUK U FUK U" is not a review and these people should be put in the same catagory as the (mainly) garbage they're moaning about. Dont get me wrong, TF, I'm a big fan of your features and lists but when you (pretty much) nail a top 50, surely you can find some evidence of pure hatred that was written by someone with an IQ in double figures! There are movies out there that I can't stand (Lady in the Water is one on this list...oh and The Happening!) but at least I can give a relavtively good reason why and not just shout abuse at the screen! Rant over :-)

I actually quite like the "top 3" especially Forrest Gump which gets loads of unnecessary stick. Total Film mentions the hatred of it because it beat Pulp Fiction and Shawshank at the Oscars. Not Gumps fault and up until then it was liked by the majority. But thats fan boys for you. Gump worse than Batman and Robin, Battlefield Earth, Transformers 2, EPIC MOVIE!!!!!! The supporting comments for this feature were fairly hit and miss. Mostly miss. Mark Kermode and other genuinely well-informed people vs some of the worst morons ever to be let loose on the internet. The Twilight freak for starters - "the books changed me some how" ............."some how"? You don't even know what changed and what in the books made you change? Did you change from a person who had not read the Twilight books to a person who had read the Twilight books? And then the rest just seemed to be over-excitable losers with no way to express themselves other than through CAPITAL LETTERS and naughty swear words. Really - if the writers for TF can't find better people to back up their features than the above morons, they should probably just stay quiet on the feature front.

I would either go for X3 (wasn't the abomination we all feared, but still a wasted opportunity) or Terminator Salvation. That film was in no way what i imagined the future war would be like as Kyle Reese describes it in the first Terminator film. Again, a wasted opportunity.

Forest Gump and Avatar - YES THANK YOU. I loathe those two films. And, to defend TF, the point of the 'typical reviews' was to show how the films are universally hated, not just by critics. In fact, that even the fools that do use 'capital letters and naughty swear words' find bollocks like Uwe Boll offensive and c**p is a hope for us all. At least I THINK that was the point.

Wow this is definitely not an accurate list, why not replace all the films that are listed with movie that are actually classified as terrible film making. Some movies actually belong on the list like House of the Dead but I see a lot of over exaggerating like movies Forest Gump, Titanic and especially Avatar. There are even a ton of the movies list that would be classified as mediocre and that shouldn't be on there. There is a ton of cheese out there that can make well over a list of 50 movies. This list seems like something a person I know would make, like for an example this is how he thinks movies that have no violence or sex is a bad movie, or also if a movie is reviewed positive by a large number of ppl or is making a ton of money he has to hate the movie and if the movie bomb is reviewed really bad he thinks its an awsome movie. Anyways more and more ppl are like this, IMO I think movies should be credited more on film making rather than how most movies are today. Then maybe Hollywood would care about what they put out there rather than making a quick buck.

This is my point, its such a pointless list. Whether a movie is bad or not is not reference to whether someone will hate it, which means its so subjective that pretty much every movie ever made will have at least some people who can't stand it, for whatever reasons: it's too loveydovey, it's too gory, it stars Jennifer Lopez etc. I know 2 people who genuinely hate The Dark Knight, which i think says it all.

If this is a sort of fanboy-hate list, I really don't get some of the titles you've added. Anyway: One title I really expected to see was DOOM (seriously: I checked the list twice, convinced I had missed it the first time). I'm lost for words!! The Rock (Johnson) at least admitted that this wasn't great stuff: On letterman he was asked about how he prepared for this character, and he started off by being really serious, before he broke out laughing and said: "Who am I kidding? All I do is beat up guys. I'm just a big, bada** guy with a big, bada** gun. There's no real acting involved". And that pretty much sums up DOOM....

Pretty good list, but I'd really like to know how some of the movies made this list. Some are a given (Battlefield Earth, Hulk, etc...), but some movies on this list aren't given the credit they list! Avatar, although the story was awful, I feel like what it did for films now is important; if it wasn't for James Cameron and this movie, we wouldn't have 3D like we have it now! I think this list would be better served as the "45 Most Hated Movies Ever Made" because I would take about 5 off this list.

@nkutzler I like Superman Returns. Certainly no hate from me. @ Heisenberg. Totally agree. It's all someone's opinion, so therefore totally subjective. It makes me laugh when people say Total Film got it wrong with these lists. It's as if people do not understand it is their opinion. There is nothing written in stone that states what films should appear on any given list. If 10 people had a different opinion of what should be on the most hated 50 films list, which list would actually be correct?

This is yet another list that unwisely declares to contain Most Something. This is the worst list so far, but the problem with almost all these Total Film lists is that they state the theme as being absolute, when rare themes of these lists are not. In this particular list, yes, it's been compiled with no apparent unifying criteria - films just thrown in to make the even 50 count. TCM2003? T4? H2007? F4? Elm Street 2010? The Last Stand? Not adored does not equal being hated - it's just people being *indifferent* to the movie. And some films are actually liked, based on their IMDb ratings: Love Actually (7.8), Avatar (8.1), Titanic (7.5 - does Kinnear have a beef with Cameron?) and Forrest Gump (8.7 - though in my *opinion* it is s#!t). Besides, we already have an *official* list - it's called The IMDb Bottom 100 and the most glaring omissions on the Total Film list are the following Bottom 100 movies: #90 Gigli (2.4), #74 Alone in the Dark (2.3), #55 Son of the Mask (2.1), #49 Glitter (2.0), #39 The Hottie & the Nottie (1.9) and #24 Disaster Movie (1.7 - you have two Camerons, why can't you have ALL Friedberg/Seltzer turds?). Total failure, Total Film.

Not surprised to see Avatar on this list, as anything that becomes incredibly successful is a natural target for the bile of angry internet folk (unlike the good-natured intellectuals like us who frequent Total Film's site). But the quoted criticism by 'Maria Bustillos' leaves me completely baffled. She says: "...Here is a story with an alleged anti-corporatist message, underwritten by a huge corporation to the tune of $250 million plus. It preaches closeness with (outer-space) nature, but must have produced CO2 emissions at the rate of a dozen oil refineries..." Putting aside the huge promotional tree-planting initiative Cameron and Fox started... what the f**k is she talking about? Does she believe that all of those spaceships and vehicles are real things, belching pollution all over the idyllic planet that she seems to think they actually visited, bringing a giant crew and their gas-guzzling Winnebagos with them? The entire movie was shot on a small empty stage with a handful of actors in spotted pyjamas, wasn't it? If that's generating 'oil refinery'-level CO2 emissions then she needs to start protesting outside off-Broadway fringe theatre shows for similar irresponsibility. And all this is before we get onto her assertion that the film's 'misogynistic'. Shut up, you silly cow... ;)

http://www.videodetective.com/movies/superman-4-the-quest-for-peace/1380 I think this list has room for two Superman movies. Superman Returns was probably a worse film as it was pretty much a Soap Opera fill of plot holes. One being that Superman does not notice the continent is made of Kryptonite until Lex Luthor tells him; he should have crashed out of the sky before he even within 50 feet of the surface. Superman 4: The Quest for Peace is not a much better film though. The entire film seemed to be a Public Service Announcement against nuclear arms. I also question how a super powered alien ignoring the entire world's political and governmental systems is heartwarming. I'd think people would be terrified that he could take over whenever he wanted. People hated Superman 4 and superman fans still despise it to this day.

Agree with most of this, including the #1, but The Last Airbender should be higher than #11. Anyone who has seen the animated series the film is based on will have immediately wished a slow and painful demise on Shyamalan (perhaps forcing him to repeatedly watch his own films until his brain turns to mush). It's not just the casting c**k-up either, far from it. There was none of the humour or character development that made the series so good, the script and acting were offensively poor and the "action" scenes were akin to watching wood warp. Shyamalan should never have been allowed to make another film after this abomination....

Can't say I hate any of these movies. Some I didn't like and I'm open to hating SATC2 if I'm ever forced to watch it. Some may be, to use a cliche, Marmite, but if we use measurements like box office takings and gongs received, some of them clearly are more liked than hated.

Can honestly say I've never ever met anyone who claimed to hate Forest Gump, especially not to the point where it would warrant being number 3 in a list like this, ahead of the likes of the Happening and Lady in the Water. One of the best movie soundtracks of all time as well. So what,,,,, it won an oscar ahead of others, hate the academy then, not the movie.

Oh and that review of Avatar WTF,, I'd rather watch Avatar a 100 more times than read anything else by that critic, what a load of feminist nonsense!! Avatar shouldn't be on this list as more people loved it than hated it, which will be proved when the sequels come out.

Jesus Christ i hate that Final Fantasy reviewer more than i hate any of the films on this list. If i had paid to watch a film and some little f*****g nerdy s******d, who has never kissed a girl threw a drink at the screen and ripped it, i would take great pleasure in kicking his head up and down the aisles all f******g night, regardless of how bad the film is, the moron. Although i would have to watch out incase any of his resident evil action figures attacked me. The f*****g GIMP. Rant over

I still think Ang Lee's Hulk is cruelly underrated.

The reason for Hulk being hated was this: "Do yourself a favor. If you haven't seen this movie... DON'T. I feel like I wasted 2 hours and 8 dollars on this piece of garbage. If you want to see a movie that has action or explosions, find a theater still showing Matrix Reloaded, or wait for T3. Either way, avoid this one." gavynhelfyre, IMDb Terminator 3? Matrix Reloaded? Are you all a bunch of inbred whack jobs? There might be reason to dislike Hulk, bit that is not evidence to do so. Total Film phone home an article. Again.
