Concept art for Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 Lizard revealed

It’s not far off Marc Webb’s version…

Concept art for Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 has been posted online, revealing how The Lizard might have looked in the director’s swinging sequel – and there’s a distinct feeling of déjà vu all over again.

Though Raimi eventually dumped The Lizard in favour of Doc Oc (Alfred Molina), the concept art proves he was keen on Dr Curt Connors for a while, at least.

Created by artist Constantine Sekeris, the artwork shows the troubled villain in full reptilian transformation.

Check the images out below…

The most striking thing about the artwork is just how similar it is to the final look of Rhys Ifans’ Lizard in last year’s The Amazing Spider-Man.

Like the Ifans version, this Lizard has no lab coat and possesses a similarly domed cranium.

We can’t help but wonder if director Marc Webb got his hands on these while prepping his own Spidey feature.

Webb will begin shooting The Amazing Spider-Man 2 this year, which reunites the principal cast of Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Sally Field and Martin Sheen (the latter, presumably, from beyond the grave).

Also on board are Jamie Foxx as the film’s villain, Dane DeHaan as Harry Osbourn and Shailene Woodley as Mary-Jane Watson.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2
opens in cinemas on 18 April 2014.

Concept art always looks cool until it's transformed into CGI. The Lizard we got wasn't amazing but it sure as hell looked ten times better than Raimi's ridiculous Sandman.

There's only so many ways you can design a "believable" human shaped lizard. And what was wrong with Sandman?

Erm how about the fact Raimi decided to create a Godzilla like Sandman in the finale that looked like it came straight out of Playstation video game.

I quite like this concept, it looked more like a lizard and has less human qualities than Ifans version.. Dylan Baker would have been awesome in the role.

Ah I see everyones still b******g bout spidey 3! Seriously get a grip. For a start it was better than a lot of c**p marvel has churned out in the past MMM ghost 1 & 2, x men last stand, daredevil, Electra (although superior to daredevil) don't even get me started on fantastic 4 1 & 2 ( silver surfer being mildly better) absolutely nothing wrong with sandman, film a little over crowded and long but still a great trilogy, as for lizard they should have bent over backwards to keep both raimi and maguire because the latest stank and the sequels are never gonna surpass spidey 1 & 2 in either quality or box office! To say lizard looks better than sandman makes me wonder if anyone actually saw amazing Spidey anyway........ Rant over I shall now go and return from whence I came : ) XMX

After seeing these photos, it seems like Raimi really could have changed the way the Lizard was portrayed. A coworker at DISH and I have long debated the look of the Lizard in the Amazing Spiderman, and after seeing these images it seems like an opportunity was missed. But regardless of how he looked, I am really glad the new movie took a chance and included a new villain. I look forward to seeing Electro in the new movies, and I’m glad that in the meantime, I can watch all of the Spiderman movies using Blockbuster @Home from DISH. With my busy schedule, I love that I can put movies in my cue and get them delivered in the mail quickly. But the best part is if I want my movies quicker, I have unlimited exchanges at Blockbuster stores. I love being able to watch all of my favorite movies and shows in a quick and convenient way that suits my needs. With the amount of Spiderman movies out, watching them again helps me refresh on details. It helps to see the potential for the villains that never were and prepare for the new villains to come.

"It's very similar, except for the fact that it's remarkably different."

hmmm...'We can’t help but wonder if director Marc Webb got his hands on these while prepping his own Spidey feature.' ? Well, considering he copied every other single aspect of Raimi's films when he inherited the franchise (that had been made less than a decade ago) I'd have to say YES. Webb got to remix one of the coolest superhero properties ever, and we all paid to see it. @mattburges I think the birth of Sandman was one of the most beautiful CG sequences I'd ever seen but yes @Ali1748 by the finale the character evolved into a giant evil gingerbread man taking orders from something that Spawn pooped out
