Quentin Tarantino gives his verdict on Prometheus

“There was a lot of dumb stuff in it!”

Quentin Tarantino is Hollywood’s proudest geek, so it’s probably not surprising to learn that he has plenty of opinions to share about 2012’s most divisive sci-fi movie, Prometheus.

Speaking during an appearance on a US chat-show, Tarantino started off by praising certain elements of Scott’s film before turning to some of its glaring flaws.

“On one hand, it was actually kind of cool to see a big deal, serious science-fiction epic by a director like Ridley Scott,” began Tarantino. “Overall the experience was pretty cool having seen it.”

“But there was also a lot of dumb stuff in it," continued the director. "When it got to the point where they're on another planet and then a space cobra literally shows up, opens up its hood and the guy who's in charge of alien creatures goes, 'Hey, little fella! How ya doin?' I was like, ‘uhhhhh.... It's a space cobra!’”

A sentiment we can all share a degree of sympathy with. In the meantime, QT’s latest, Django Unchained, opens in the UK on 18 January 2012.

Meh, what does he know? He's never made a good film in his life.

at last he says something sensible. Prometheus had tons of ridiculous moments. I defy anyone to actually really understand it or ultimately give a toss. Ridley Scott better watch out or he will end up with a rep like m night shamalyandingdong

Having rewatched Prometheus on Blu Ray I still stand firm that it's a good movie but just disappointing. There's a great movie in there somewhere so perhaps a Directors Cut might help, it worked for Kingdom Of Heaven.

BTW has QT choosen his favorite movies of 2012 yet ?? His 2011 list was interesting with the inclusion of The Three Musketeers and The Sitter.

2013* I agree, Prometheus was awesome to look at, but the script is flawed. it doesn't coincide with Alien.

I agree as well. I was so loving it when I grabbed it on BR and then I was like "Why???" The visuals are awesome but those serious plot holes and stupid stuff "scientists" did made me laugh.

Prometheus was a grade D Horror movie with grade A Special Effects. I think the Scary Movie series had better writing.

Say what you will, but when that weird white snake things head regenerated faster than anything else ever on film, you were impressed....

There has been far too much debate about Prometheus. It's just not a particularly good film. It scrapes a 3/5. The main problem? And it's so very, very silly. And the script is laughable.

I liked Prometheus, but parts of it were asinine, ex. nobody can run and jump that quickly post c-section. And, though I'm not fond of Tarantino, he's proved he's just as big a movie fan as anyone else. And also, feet.
