Landlines suck. The phones themselves are a throwback to the days when phones were for, y'know, phoning people, and you can't even play Snake on them! There's one thing going for them though: they're cheap. This app lets you access landline prices when you're out and about, or better, abroad. Read More >>

No one who's actually found how to change default search provider in Internet Explorer actually uses Yahoo search, but now the Google competitor is trying to win our hearts back...by bunging Flickr Creative Commons photos into its image search. I'm sorry Yahoo, but I don't think that's going to do it for me. Chocolates and flowers traditionally work better for wooing people back [Yahoo] Read More >>
It's Sunday afternoon, raining outside, and rather than write those overdue Christmas thank-you letters (don't pretend like you've done them, you liar), you curl up on the sofa and safely cocoon yourself in some HD sports. Though you take it for granted, the magic of telly doesn't happen without some hard work, and more importantly, an absolute mountain of expensive and awesome tech. Read More >>
Breaking news from Berlin: a naked homeless man, on the run from the police no less, has had to be rescued from 10 metres down a chimeny. There are so many questions here: how did he get into the chimney? Why was he running from the police? How much money can you get from being a DiCaprio lookalike? And most importantly, WHY WAS HE NAKED? Read More >>

What with our Armed Forces being asked to fight pretty damn hard all over the Middle East, you'd think that they have high-tech cutting-edge weapons to do the dirty with, right? Ha, you joker. Actually, up until today, the issue Army sidearm was a Belgian-made thing designed in the 1920s. Read More >>

Recently, I've been conducting a bit of an experiment: rather than going to see lots of films in grimy mulitplexes, I've been shunning the mainstream and going to fewer blockbuster releases, but all of them in awesome, luxury cinemas. "Oh, you dirty hipster" I hear you cry -- but while I might be perilously close to skinny-jeans-and-gratuitous-glasses territory, I can promise you that ditching the mulitplex is totally worth it. Here's why. Read More >>

Sniper rifles already rank a solid 11 on the badass scale, but you know what makes them even more badass? Whacking a Terminator-style set of cyborg eyes on the top that tracks targets and then helps the shooter hit exactly what he or she wants. You can run, but you really can't hide...mwhahaha! Good news for anyone who backed the Pebble smartwatch on Kickstarter: after months of delays, the Pebble is FINALLY shipping out on the 23rd of January (on a first-comes-first-served for backers basis). Thank Jesus, I was getting a bit bored of waiting. Read More >>

Adobe's a nasty mean bully. It took our hopes of free Photoshop and violently sucker-punched them in the face. I felt picked on, and I wanted to go crying to Mammy. But I didn't. I kept my resolve, and grew from the ashes to be a bigger and better person. You can too. We don't need that meanie Adobe and its so-called 'software'. There's lots of perfectly good alternatives to Photoshop out there, and you know what? Their makers love us. I love them too. Read More >>

Much as I might gripe about the Tube (and boy, do I love to gripe), it's still an awesome machine and an incredible achievement -- 270 stations, 402 kilometres of track and an insane 1.2 billion journeys per year. And today it turns 150! Do you think trains like birthday cake? Read More >>
The iTwin Connect is a cute little device that looks like a flash drive with two plugs, but has endless possibilities: the verdant green pastures of Netflix's US library; browsing blocked sites from your work computer, or a secure connection from a dodgy internet café's WiFi. Read More >>
With the rate companies are churning through devices nowadays, I'd bet that a fair few of you have a drawer full of old gadgets just gathering dust. But it's time to put the unseen masses to work. Without trying to sound like that old bloke off Cash in the Attic, you might have hundreds of pounds sitting in said drawers. Flog it all, and you might only be one limb or major organ short of that new 4K TV. Read More >>
If you were hooked up to your computer yesterday, you might've noticed that Adobe apparently released Creative Suite 2 to the public for free. I say apparently, because it turns out that although Adobe stuck the install files and serial numbers on the internet for anyone with an Adobe account to see and download, it apparently didn't want to have a big software give-away -- even though it would've actually been a really good idea. Look. We knew that at CES this year, we'd be inundated with a metric tonne of giant phone/tablet monstrosities. We were ready. We braced ourselves, stretched our hands out, and I even practiced my best smiling-through-gritted-teeth face. But I can't handle it any more. A couple weeks back we asked you all, under the cunning guise of a giveaway, to sell us your soul and reveal what gadgets you're looking forward to in 2013. We took the numbers, and our team of slave-minion-analysts have been toiling endlessly since then to crunch the numbers and come up with the ultimate question to life, the universe and everything: what gadget do the Giz UK readers really want? And no, the answer's not 42. Read More >>
