Keyhole

3

Canadian auteur Guy Maddin's latest surreal dream

Woven from the abstract, filtered through metaphors… Keyhole signs up to the sort of surrealism that’s an acquired taste.

Directed by Guy Maddin, Canada’s answer to David Lynch, it follows gangster Ulysses Pick (Jason Patric), who returns home to embark on a monochrome odyssey through rooms haunted by ghosts and memories.

Plot is secondary to visuals, the film collapsing into a formless dream where sense is only found by those really looking for it.

It’s fascinating enough to tease interest, but too glacial to sustain it.
