The new, full-length international trailer for Tom Hooper’s musical adaptation of Les Misérables reveals vocal performances from most of the ensemble cast.
Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Sacha Baron Cohen, Helena Bonham Carter, and Eddie Redmayne are all included, and the majority comprise a musical medley of a handful of the stage show’s well-known numbers, 'I Dreamed A Dream', 'One Day More', 'Do You Hear The People Sing?' and more.
Previous trailers had focussed on Anne Hathaway’s vocal talent in her rendition of 'I Dreamed A Dream'. But now we can even hear Russell Crowe pull off a note or two.
In addition to showcasing Hooper’s authentic method of recording the vocals live on set, as opposed to in a studio, the two-and-a-half-minute trailer provides fresh footage - previously unseen in the trailer and teaser - including a first look at Bonham Carter and Baron Cohen as the loathsome Thénardiers.
It unveils more of the traditional grandeur of Hooper’s version of 19th-Century France in what looks to be an impressively powerful and stylistic display.

Are they serious with Russell Crowe's singing? That is AWFUL. Javert is supposed to embody power, and needs a voice that channels that power. Who is Crowe channeling here, Kermit the Frog? Oh wait, no, because Kermit the Frog would have been a better choice. I hope to God this is just a fluke and not indicative of his entire performance. Javert is my favorite fictional character- period- and I can't stand to bear to see him butchered. Well, at least the Thenardiers are going to be ace (with Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter, how could they NOT?) enough to wash the bad taste from my mouth.

This will be amazing. They are still holding back on the major emotion and themes of the book, musical, and score. Russell Crowe will be fine, one clip does not a performance make. We still haven't heard from Jackman, Tveit, Barks, and Redmayne for the truly powerful voices. On a personal note, seeing Cosette with her doll (major image from the book) tells me they are doing the story justice.

The only problem I have is that sadly I just don't appreciate or like musicals. I've tried all the musical movies I can stomach and all the live stage shows that I can muster, but I just struggle to connect with this type of thing. Of course I know that I'm in a minority, so for the fans I hope this is as good to listen to as it is to look at, even for a misery like me.

Hmmm... on this evidence it seems that Crowe went to the Pierce Brosnan school of musical performance. Lets hope that they just chose a really sucky segment of his performance for this trailer.

This looks to be great i think Russell Crowe's voice is fine. Can't wait to see Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen as the Thenardiers.

Crowe sounds just fine. He's one of the most emotionally powerful actors in the world, if not THE most, and he has a voice to match. Certainly his wordless acting in the trailer is everything a Javert fan could wish for. Fortunately I don't know the musical and so have not musical pre-conceptions. I DO know, however, that I don't expect ANYONE to sing like Pavarotti in this. I'd rather have decent actors in this who know how to handle film's requirements and not musical stage actors who just stand and bawl to the back row. That would look really great in a closeup now, wouldn't it ? Not.

I don't expect them to be operatic; that would be bad. It's not like I was b******g about Anne Hathaway's singing, was I? I DO expect them to be able to understand the basics of singing, such as forward placement. I do expect Javert to sound like a powerful badass BASS, not Pierce Brosnan in "Mamma Mia!" There's a difference between placing expectations too high and having expectations to begin with.
