Django Unchained4

The next Quentin Tarantino film is always something to get excited about, and Django Unchained isn’t looking to be an exception to that particular rule.

This ‘southern’ will be QT’s unique take on a tumultuous period in US history, which’ll also serve as an homage to previous Django movies.

Jamie Foxx will play the title character, bagging the role after a lengthy casting mission that reportedly entertained the idea of Will Smith or Idris Elba in the lead. Christoph Waltz (so good in Inglourious Basterds) is the bounty hunter who trains Django in the art of killing.

Leonardo DiCaprio is playing against form as the snarling, racist, slave-owning villain of the piece, who holds Django's wife, Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), captive.

Securing actors hasn’t been an entirely smooth process though, with Kevin Costner, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Sacha Baron Cohen and Kurt Russell leaving the project. Jonah Hill also had to bail, before a rearranged schedule saw him back on board.

The trailers promise cool to spare, with a typically eclectic soundtrack, instantly iconic dialogue, and lashings of violence.

Tarantino and his cast will greet the gathered hoards at Comic-Con 2012, with the film set to open in the UK on 18 January 2013.
