Lincoln4

Lincoln follows the story of the sixteenth president, Abraham Lincoln, played by two time Academy Award winner Daniel Day-Lewis in one of the year’s most anticipated performances.

Day-Lewis replaced Liam Neeson (who was long attached to the project), playing Abe in the final years of his life, as he pursues his mission to abolish slavery and end the American Civil War.

Steven Spielberg’s film is based on the book Team Of Rivals by Dorris Kearns Goodwin, and portrays the story of a working president endorsing serious changes in America, which is a cause of much heated debate.

The film also boasts an incredible ensemble cast, including Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Sally Field as Lincoln's son and wife. Tommy Lee Jones plays radical Republican leader Thaddeus Stevens, and John Hawkes, Jackie Earle Haley and Jared Harris round out the cast.

A brief teaser trailer didn't reveal much in terms of plot.

This historical drama has been a labour of love for Spielberg, who has been nurturing the project for more than a decade. Let’s hope it’s worth the wait.

Lincoln opens in the UK on 25 January 2013 (after arriving in the US on 16 November 2012).
