Oz: The Great And Powerful

Oz: The Great And Powerful marks Sam Raimi’s return to directing, following a sizeable gap since his last effort, 2009’s Drag Me To Hell.

The Spider-Man director returns to blockbuster-sized filmmaking for this prequel to The Wizard Of Oz, imagining what the titular magician did before wandering down the Yellow Brick Road.

James Franco (a Raimi alumnus from the original Spider-Man trilogy) stars as the title character Oz, and joining him as the three witches are the starry triptych of Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis and Michelle Williams. Scrubs star Zach Braff returns to the limelight in a dual role as Oz’s assistant and a winged monkey called Finley.

Expect gothic tinges in the Danny Elfman’s score, as well as nods aplenty to the 1939 film.

An Oz teaser poster has been revealed, and the film appears at Comic-Con 2012.
