Grup Yorum, the politically active Turkish folk music band, has been the voice of hope and the people of Anatolia for 27 years and gathered together hundreds of thousands music lovers in their concerts in Turkey as well as in Europe. Grup Yorum collaborates with prominent directors to tell involving stories about struggle and bravery of convicts in F-Type prisons. Back in 2000, controversial plans were announced to replace Turkey's dormitory-style prisons for those sentenced to "aggravated life imprisonment" with F-Type cell institutions. This did not go down well with inmates, many of whom had been convicted of political offences. On October 20, 2001, they announced a "death fast" in protest at the planned segregation. During the following month, hundred of prisoners took part across the country. But on December 19, the government launched a crackdown under the 'Return to Life' banner. More than ten thousand troops stormed 20 prisons. In the ensuing melee, 32 people lost their lives and hundreds were injured. In 'F-Type', ten leading Turkish directors revisit this tragic moment in their country's recent history. Each tells an individual story from the prisons and these are woven together to form a compelling feature.
