Mission: Impossible: The '89 TV Series

2

The fuse fizzles on a pre-Cruise revival of the spy franchise

Was someone on the writing team dipping into their action-movie collection while penning this second and final season of the late ’80s Mission: Impossible revival?

It kicks off with a two-part Bond-like story, including a secretive international organisation and an underground lair protected by lasers (running out of steam when it loses its Oddjob-wannabe evil henchman).

It then ends with the kind of cult activity Indiana Jones might stumble upon in a doom-filled temple.

In between sits a lot of overacting and melodramatic scripts – the craziest being a memory-loss episode – ensuring these updated adventures for the IMF team fall short of the ’60s originals.
