Made for Austrian TV, this version of Kafka’s great unfinished novel has none of the theatrical bravura of Welles’ version of The Trial but conveys much of the paradoxical flavour of the original.
K, our hero (Ulrich Mühe, The Lives Of Others), arrives outside a vast, labyrinthine castle, believing he’s been hired as a land surveyor – but he can’t find any way in, nor anyone to confirm he’s actually got the job.
