The Water Industry Commission for Scotland is the economic regulator of the water and sewerage industry in Scotland. Our mission is to encourage the industry to provide a high-quality service and value for money to customers. We act to set prices, facilitate competition and monitor performance. The Director of Analysis leads the economic and financial analysis that underpins our work.
As a result, average household bills are £110 lower than they would otherwise have been. Customer service standards have doubled and we have overseen the introduction of retail competition for services to business customers and the public sector. This world first has changed the nature of the relationship between customers and their suppliers and is bringing more tailored services and lower bills.
The position reports to the Chief Executive, Alan Sutherland, and plays a key role in the Commission’s decision making. Overseeing a team of analysts, the postholder will use economic data, financial modelling and other tools to inform decisions and subject both internal and external proposals to rigorous quantitative analysis.
The Commission is open-minded about professional discipline – you may be an economist, engineer or statistician - but you must be a deeply experienced water industry professional with strong quantitative analytical abilities and possessed of strong strategic skills. We seek someone who can command credibility at Board and Executive level both within the organisation and across a wide range of external bodies.
