Public Insight analyst Melody Ng's current focus is recruiting people of diverse backgrounds, age, ethnicity, political stance, geography, income, faith, education and more, to be news sources, and getting their stories, voices and perspectives into news stories and programs, from APM and PIN partner newsrooms. She'll accost teens at the annual FFA convention, door-knock through a neighborhood, organize mobile texting campaigns, solicit stories at libraries across the nation, and facilitate community forums to make that happen. Before joining the team in 2005, and interning for documentary unit American RadioWorks in 2004, Melody mucked through wild rice beds observing insects as an ecology grad student, and rainy Appalachian woods catching salamanders as an undergrad. Her teaching experience includes English to Chinese students from fifth-graders to professors; ecosystem ecology and English writing to American graduate students; and the Bible to preschoolers. Passions? Eating from street carts and talking with strangers.
