Rebecca Halls plays a Vegas stripper who falls in with a bunch of bookmakers

Statuesque sophisticate Rebecca Hall isn’t ideally cast in this Vegas-set comedy about a perky stripper who falls in with a bunch of bookmakers and proves herself to have a head for figures as well as a bod for sin.

But then nothing feels quite right in this fact-based caper, least of all Bruce Willis as the old-school gambler who sees beyond Beth’s ditsy facade and takes her under his wing, or Vince Vaughn as his shady chief rival.

The project is an odd choice for Stephen Frears, who fails to inject much energy into the material despite superficial similarities to The Grifters and a heroine reminiscent of Erin Brockovich.
