Music and Movies

Many 21st-century listeners' first — and sometimes — main exposure to classical composition is through movie scores. With this in mind, Classical MPR has developed programming that celebrates and explores the relationship between music and movies today and throughout the history of film. Enjoy Roll Credits on Monday nights at 7 p.m. and Flicks in Five on Saturdays at 10 a.m.

Flicks in Five™

Every Saturday at 10 a.m., Lynne Warfel takes a close look at great films, their scores and the stories behind the cameras... all in five minutes.

Roll Credits™

Another movie score summer with Roll Credits begins with a Fourth of July pre-function, Monday night at 7. Lynne Warfel, a personality as colorful as a shirt from our nation's 50th state, is joined once again by her sidekick Bill Morelock, a man with the relatively muted presence of George Gobel. They get along. The Independence Day playlist ranges from the patriotic to the picnic-related with a John Williams chase scene and maybe a Henry Mancini cocktails-at-six tune thrown in to complete the portrait of a very large and complex country's birthday.

About Bill Morelock

Bill Morelock Bill Morelock fell into radio as a refugee from graduate school. This was in Pullman, Washington, where Murrow learned how to speak like Murrow. A permanent inferiority complex developed. In 1988, he conspired with Bob Christiansen to create the daily classical music show, Bob & Bill. It was distributed nationally by NPR from 1991-1996. In Minnesota, Morelock has worked at WCAL in Northfield, and at Minnesota Public Radio in St. Paul. He writes an occasional piece of prose, occasionally funny, but not often enough to really annoy anyone.

About Lynne Warfel

Lynne Warfel Lynne Warfel returns to a 24-year radio career after a four-year hiatus. In this "Cavorts with Collies" period, she followed her lifelong passion for working with dogs as a trainer and behavior consultant. She was also heard locally on Minnesota Public Radio from 1993-2005. While at MPR in her former incarnation, she hosted the Minnesota High School Music Listening Contest, Echoes of Christmas with the Dale Warland Singers, Sommerfest broadcasts, was a guest narrator with The SPCO and Minnesota Orchestra, and was a frequent guest host on The Morning Show with Dale Connelly and Jim Ed Poole.
