Leading UAE Bank seeking experienced Market Risk Manager with a good appreciation of broad risk frameworks
When a bank is continuously striving to stay ahead of the curve by continuously innovating, creating new products and services to maintain it’s reputation of advanced banking capabilities it tends to make the life of the humble market risk professional more challenging.
Sadly in this bank there can be no sitting back with a sandwich watching automated processes set up around your VaR model do their work, there is no guarantee of a leaving time the minute a market closes and the opportunity to nip off to a quiet corner with a newspaper for half an hour and a bit of a doze is a distant dream. Perhaps you might then pity the risk team made up of experienced luminaries from around the world with more letters after their name than your average officers club dinner invite list. What’s odd though is that they don’t. It seems that the benefits of working in such an organisation are the continuous mental challenge, the high profile nature of their work and the fact that they look back on their participation in the bank with a genuine sense of pride at what they have created.
If such reckless abandon to the time honoured tradition of “not FO not FI (Fully Invested)” appeals to you we may have an opportunity that suits. We are seeking a market risk manager to support the investment banking and proprietary trading divisions of this major GCC bank. Increased liquidity and a host of sophisticated global clients has meant that a variety of opportunities for innovation have emerged that the bank wishes to lead the market in, and demands a sophisticated, modern and reactive controls environment to support that growth. Specifically you will be charged with creating market risk models around a host of new vanilla and exotic instruments, working closely with both the trading division and group risk /ALM management teams to ensure the banks strategic objectives are met.
The team places a high demand on the quality of talent it hires to work in this divison, so we are seeking as a minimum all of the following:
- At least 5 years of direct market risk experience generated in institutions with sophisticated trading strategies
- Experience of creating market risk models from scratch around new complex instruments
- A developed appreication of wider risk and governance frameworks and experience of working directly with such related parties.
- A strong quantitative academic background
